Château Haut-Brion, Graves (since 1986, Pessac-Léognan)

Chateau Haut Brion is located in Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux, and is the oldest continuously working winery in Bordeaux.

Its terroir is deep gravel over clay and sand, with a wide variety of minerals and quartz in the soils. The vineyard is well placed on gravel slopes that reach up to 27 meters at their peak elevations.

Chateau Haut Brion produces both red and white wines. The red wines are made from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes, while the white wines are made predominantly from Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

Vinification takes place in unique, double-skinned, stainless steel vats. The wine is aged in up to 100% new, French oak for as long as 24 months, depending on the strength and character of the vintage.

The best vintages include 2016, 2015, 2014, 2010, and 2009. The best storage and serving temperatures for Chateau Haut Brion wines are 15-18°C (59-64°F) for red wines and 8-10°C (46-50°F) for white wines. Decanting time varies depending on the vintage, but it is generally recommended to decant for 2-3 hours.

Chateau Haut Brion wines pair well with a variety of foods, including beef, lamb, game, and rich poultry dishes.
