Chateau d’Issan is located in the Medoc region of Bordeaux and is one of the oldest wine-producing properties in the area. The vineyard is planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. 

The vineyard’s terroir is gravel with clay and limestone soils on gentle, rolling slopes. The vine density is 9,000 vines per hectare, and the vines’ average age is 35 years. 

The best vintages of Chateau d’Issan are 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2000, and 1959. The wine is vinified in temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats and is aged in 50% new, French oak barrels for an average of 18 months before bottling. 

The wine is best served at 15.5 degrees Celsius, 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and should be decanted for an average of 2-3 hours, depending on the vintage. 

Chateau d’Issan pairs well with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised, and grilled dishes, Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta, as well as cheese.
