Chateau Cantemerle Overview

Chateau Cantemerle is a historical estate located in the Haut-Medoc appellation of Bordeaux. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 12th century and was owned by the Villeneuve family until the late 1800s. The estate’s modern era began in 1981 when it was purchased by the SMABTP group, who have made significant investments in the vineyards and winemaking facilities.

The vineyard covers 108 hectares, with 92 hectares under vine and planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. The estate’s terroir is mostly sand and gravel soils, and the vines are close to 30 years of age on average.

The wine is aged in 40% to 50% new French oak barrels for 12 to 16 months, depending on the vintage. The estate produces a second wine, Les Allees de Cantemerle.
