Terroir, Vineyard, and Location
Chateau Lascombes is located in the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, France. The estate has a large, 120-hectare vineyard with parcels in Cantenac, Margaux, and Soussans. The vineyard is planted to 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. The terroir is gravel, clay, sand, and limestone soils which are laid over sandstone and clay with iron deposits.
Wine Characters and Styles
Chateau Lascombes produces a rich, fleshy, and occasionally jammy wine, occasionally showing too much oak. It is considered to be one of the most modern-styled wines of Margaux, and is controversial due to its oaky character.
Wine-making Techniques
Vinification takes place in a combination of wood and stainless steel vats. The wine is aged in an average of 80% new French oak barrels for 18 months. There is a second wine, Chevalier de Lascombes.

Decanting Time
Young vintages can be decanted for an average of 2-3 hours, give or take. Older vintages might need very little decanting, just enough to remove the sediment.
